On Saturday 14th January we held an 8 hour cycle challenge in Laois Shopping Centre to raise funds for Laois Hospice. We are so grateful to all of our True Fitness members for giving up their time to come over and support us by cycling 30 minute stages and collecting money for this very worthy cause. You guys are super! Over the years John has raised €90,000+ for Laois Hospice with €10,000 of that money raised by our Kayak Around Ireland Challenge in 2014.
This current event is one of many that will be held by True Fitness over the next 6 months, with the main event being John’s amazing cycle challenge later this year. In June 2017 John will cycle 4,500km through the rocky mountains from Banff in Canada to Mexico, all to raise funds for Laois Hospice. This event will require John to cycle 15 hours per day for 35 days completely self supported. John will face freezing temperatures, scalding temperatures, wild dangerous animals, altitude and will climb the equivalent of Mount Everest 7 times! Food, phone reception and comfort of any description will be scarce to say the least. This is not a challenge for the faint hearted, but John is one of the most amazingly determined people I know so I don’t doubt his ability for one second.
Our goal is to raise €10,000 for Laois Hospice with these events and we would greatly appreciate your support with this. When John’s cycle starts in June we will be asking for online donations and all donations of any size will be very greatly appreciated! Laois Hospice have a PayPal account set up so you can donate directly there by just putting ‘rocky mountain cycle’ in the reference. I know Seamus (the chair person of Laois Hospice) is so appreciative of the fund raising we try to do. He is such a great person who has done so much for people who really need his help, so we are delighted to do what we can to support his efforts.
