Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur 2019
What is IBYE?
IBYE 2019 is a national competition to find Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur. It is a programme run by the 31 Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) with the support of the Department of Enterprise and Innovation and Enterprise Ireland. The competition is open to people between the ages of 18 and 35 with an innovative business idea, new start up or established business. IBYE has an investment fund of up to €2 million. It is now a nationwide competition with three categories: Best Business Idea, Best Start-Up Business and Best-Established Business. Every Local Enterprise Office will award up to six investments to three category winners and three runners-up at county level.
The competition begins with an Application Stage which includes submitting one application and an optional video. The next stage is the screening process where the applicants are screened on assessment criteria and the participants selected go through a County Entrepreneur Bootcamp. The next stage is the Entrepreneur Bootcamp Stage. This is where the county finalists enter into a specialised Entrepreneur Bootcamp to help develop their business/business idea. The Final Pitch and County Finals Stage involves the participants from the Bootcamp to submit their final business plan make a pitch to the County Assessment Panel. This panel will consist of a minimum of three judges that are selected by the LEOs. There will be three category winners and from these winners one will be selected to be the overall County winner. All three winners will progress to the Regional Final. The Regional Final is when 93 County Winners make it to the final stage. They may receive additional mentoring and business support prior to making their pitch to the Regional Assessment Panel. 24 Category Winners will be selected to progress to the National Final. The National Final Stage includes the 24 Finalists will compete for the three National Category Awards for Best Business Idea, Best Business Start-Up, and Best-Established Business.
IBYE Laois County Final
The IBYE county final was held in the Heritage Hotel, Killenard last Thursday the 2nd of May. A winner was chosen from the three categories – Best Established Business, Best Start Up and Best New Idea. Dr Diane Cooper won the award for Best New Idea, so she now moves on to represent Laois at the regional IBYE finals where the winners from Offlay, Kildare and Westmeath will join and one from each category will then go forward to the National Final.
